Dog Boarding

I am licenced by Herefordshire Council to provide home boarding for dogs (Licence Number N-HOB45). I have comprehensive insurance and I've undertaken practical training as a Canine First Responder. We've been providing dog boarding for a couple of months now. I work from home and I absolutely love dogs, so offering dog boarding alongside my art business seems like the logical thing to do. Thankfully my boyfriend, Iwan, loves dogs as much as I do and so we're very much enjoying providing this service.

Our house is surrounded by forests and is situated close to the River Wye. There are plenty of opportunities for swimming (or paddling for the less inclined), endless walks away from roads and as I work from home, there will always be someone with the dogs.

Prior to boarding, we ask that you pop over to our house for a pre-service visit. This allows the dogs time to familiarize themselves with the house and time for us to talk about your dogs needs and routines. I will give you a 'Dog Info Sheet', asking questions about feeding, exercise, vaccination and medical history, training, etc. We will endeavour to stick to your dogs daily routines as much as possible and to carry on with any training you have already taught them. If there is no time for a pre-service visit or if you live a long way away, then I'll email you the paperwork to fill in prior to boarding. I would ask you to allow extra time on the day of drop off to go through all the information.

If you are interested in booking us to take care of your dog/s, please fill in the Booking Form under the tab 'Shop' and 'Dog Boarding' and I will get back to you.

Below, I've included a few testimonials from our customers. I take my responsibilities for taking care of dogs very seriously. I understand it can be nerve-wracking leaving your dogs with strangers and so we aim to provide a home away from home service for any dog staying with us. We've developed really lovely relationships with both dogs and their extended human family members.

July 2019 - We had to find dog boarding for our two beautiful and much loved Labradors in the Ross on Wye area as we were travelling there from Oxfordshire to attend a music festival (no dogs allowed).  Very fortunately, we found Sophie (and her lovely partner Iwan). We emailed and chatted on the telephone and I immediately felt this was going to work very well.  When we met Sophie, I was so happy to have my feelings confirmed. Sophie is a lovely young woman, and our boys just rocked up and made themselves entirely at home. Over the course of the 4 days we were away from them, Sophie sent us updates and photos of the boys on lovely woodland walks, swimming in the river, cosying up on Iwan’s lap, relaxing in their back garden and so it went on ….We have no hesitation in recommending Sophie if you are looking for a professional, responsible, caring and loving environment for your beloved four-legged family members. Indeed, so happy were we that we would consider making the journey to ROW from Oxfordshire when we need boarding for our pooches to cover holidays. Good, kind and, importantly, loving, dog boarding is hard to find and it doesn’t get better than this.

July 2019 - As I was going on holiday for two weeks I was looking for someone to look after my 12 year old Jack Russell Ben who is diabetic. I contacted Dog Buddy who gave me Sophie’s information. I contacted Sophie and we arranged to meet and I knew immediately Sophie was the right person as I could tell she was very catering and got on well with Ben. Sophie met with me again before the holiday. I had never left Ben before but I was happy knowing my boy would be well looked after whilst I was away.
Sophie kept me updated every day whilst I was away with videos, pictures and messages which was very reassuring and was so great to see my boy so happy and content.
Sophie was fantastic and I would definitely let her look after Ben in the future. I would hundred per cent recommend her.

July 2019 - Our puppy has now stayed with Sophie twice and I would not hesitate to continue to use this excellent service. Sophie is wonderful with her and gives us regular updates on activities during walks. The location is perfect, adjacent to woodlands with ideal walks for dogs. The peace of mind knowing our dog is happy and being well looked after whilst we are away is priceless.

July 2019 - We’d had our new Border Collie pup “Misty” for 8 weeks. We were already hopelessly attached to her! Good old Mum, now too old to be our trusted doggy sitter, left us with the daunting task of finding an acceptable alternative for those occasions when a sitter’s services are unavoidable. Our last border collie Breeze never saw a kennel, and our standards for a doggie sitter would be very high and finding one, to tick all boxes, we thought unlikely!

We were meeting Sophie that afternoon – found via the “Dog Buddy” website, set in the beautiful surroundings of Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley. Misty and her 2 owners were going to assess the suitability of Sophie, Iwan, the house and the surroundings!

Likability was instant. Suitability was obvious and Misty thoroughly enjoyed the meet up and made herself very at home! Misty displayed typical “happy border collie puppy power!”Sophie’s fully fenced garden is small – but then, the Wye Valley is quite literally on the doorstep and huge and stunning, providing endless miles of fabulous walkies opportunities away from traffic!

We discovered that Sophie is an Artist and works from home and would constantly be with Misty which we liked. Sophie gave us the tour whilst Misty played tug of war with Iwan! We loved Sophie's Artwork! Contemporary, stylised, talented! There was a facing pair of Alpacas that really struck with us…clever use of black, white, grey and just the colour (brown)in the eyes – An idea was born!!

When we left Sophie, we were relieved and excited and confident that we had just found a solution moving forward! We knew we had to “train” ourselves to trust Misty with others, and indeed train Misty to be happy to apart from us and not suffer “separation anxiety”. Misty was booked in for her first “Day Care” stay a week later!

Throughout Misty’s first away day, we received photos, updates and even GPS tracking of her 3 walkies! We felt in touch and connected. When we collected Misty, her toys were strewn everywhere and her playful waggy tailed interaction with Sophie and Iwan really spoke for itself! She’d had great fun and clearly used up all her puppy power – She slept like a log that evening!!

We booked more day care days. Then overnights and also home sitting too. There are numerous future bookings with Sophie from Day Care to longer stays and we are planning a 10-day (or so) break in 2020 in the safe and confident knowledge that Misty will have a holiday of her own in her second home!

We are also now the proud owners of one of Sophie's original artworks – we commissioned her to paint our beloved, departed Breeze and Misty on the same canvas, in the same vein as the Alpacas painting, - black, white and grey- with just their eyes providing the colour. We’re so delighted with it – captivated by the expressions and life and energy that Sophie has so successfully captured!!

Misty was the first doggie to stay with Sophie via then, “Dog Buddy” – later “Rover” and now Sophie is setting up “Scratch and Scruff” – her own business! A unique service – perfect doggie day care or boarding and have your much-loved pooch painted too! Good Luck Sophie with your venture and of course, we’ll see you again soon!!

Sophie was great. She came around to meet the dogs prior to us going away. I had updates on walkies all through the holiday which was really nice and comforting. I would definitely recommend Sophie and will certainly be asking her to sit for us again in the future.
